Sakura group at the spring time.
Through spring to fall, we cultivate potatoes, sunny lettuce, as well as kidney beans, tomatoes, Welsh onions, Japanese radish, bokchoy, garlic, and other leafy vegetables. The vegetables are harvested and used by the center's kitchen staff, or are sold to the staff or people in the neighborhood.
Moreover, in the spring, the users grow the bacteria for shiitake (a kind of Japanese mushroom), and then the shiitake which grows from that is harvested in the mountains in both spring and autumn. Shiitake is grown in the house in winter. In the winter people appreciate shiitake because it is out of season, and you can't buy in the stores. On rainy winter days, or during the agricultural off-season we produce soap using the edible waste oil.
There was a Cosmos group established this year in autumn. They do various
activities for the purpose of getting to know the joy of making things,
cooperating through activities involving a small number of people. As well
as making bamboo chopsticks, we also make candles, or signboards for the
vegetables grown by the Sakura group.
The blue sky group is focussed on the function and feeling of the body,
and does activities according to the developmental stage of each of the
users. The activities include ball-point assembly, can crushing, the removal
of pull tabs, putting string through things, and playing with flour clay.
Work is found to suit the users even if they can only concentrate for a
few minutes at a time.
The sunflower group is working on the paper work and leather work. The
paper products are postcards, calendars, and oil blotting papers. The leather
products are key cases, coin purses. Since most of members are women, they
also work on the handicraft work
